The Church Universal / Covenant Renewal

Matt Chandler From The Village Church. Put out this video on Covenant Renewal. In it he makes some AMAZING points. Taking the bible, the scriptures and really getting down and dirty with it. I love that, I love really just getting into the bible. Taking a book, a chapter or even just a verse, and dissecting it. Finding out everything I can about it. We live in a digital age, with so much information and resources at our fingertips. To be honest, I know God put me on this earth in this time period knowing who I was. Knowing who I would become. and that BLOWS MY MIND. It really does.

In my daily reading of blogs. I friend of mine Jason Bedell who recently became the new Lead Pastor at Forefront in Va Beach, VA. Jason said something that really caught my attention. He was talking about APPLE INC. He said this

"The company shifted from trying to do multiple things on an average level- to a few things on a stellar level. And it worked. Big time."

He used Apple's example to set a course for the church. I find that I myself get caught up in doing everything "Average" instead of a few things "stellar." And church's do this ALL THE TIME, even though they have a nice sound system, lighting, backdrops, video. The service itself is still "average or relatively forgettable." I feel as though I may be on that path right now. So I started thinking what would I want the church to do stellar? And this is what I came up with.

Love, Live, Teach and Grow with Passion
Creating An Atmosphere For Experiencing GOD
Share Our Faith

That definitely seems like a tall order.

P.S. Dont forget to check out the Weight Loss Challenge .

I GAVE IN

Today I purchased an Iphone. I went to the apple store on the advice of an old friend, to talk with the apple guys. get my hands on one and play around with it. needless to say all the fears and frustrations I thought I had. were def put to rest.

I'm a large mammal, so I was worried about the touch screen key board.
(Insert image of Giant Ape smashing a square peg in a around hole.)
But the iphone is actually great at figuring out what your trying to type. The Pricing wasn't to bad.

I only got the 8 gig cause I carry around everything either in my pockets or in my Backpack which I take with me EVERYWHERE.

("You might ask")
Well What kinda stuff do you carry around with you Mark?
Well I carry with me,
Keys
Wallet
Watch
Eye drops
Pens
Business Card Holder
Bluetooth Earpiece
Apple Iphone ( I used it to take the picture)
and of course the Flip video camera.

I carry all that on my person at all times.
If only someone would invent a wallet/key/watch/phone/business card holder/pen/video camera/bluetooth ear piece.
That would be awesome and I would buy it.

Dont forget about the Weight Loss Challenge There's still time to join. And sponsor one of us.

This week I'm reading in the book of Corinthians.
What are your reading???

Christ's Fellowship Launch Day

Christ's Fellowship Launch Day is finally over. All the worrying and stressing out. It was by far the largest Sunday we've had. close to 70 people attended. I know were not supposed to get hung up on numbers, but the fact is I'm a numbers kinda guy. But now that we know what we're dealing with as far as numbers go. I can stop stressing out. I will def keep updating about the goings on of Christ's Fellowship.

Tomorrow Starts the 6 month weight loss challenge Chris and I are weighing in at 8 o'clock and we'll be updating and blogging about it by tomorrow afternoon. I'm excited about this and am hoping this will keep me motivated. Knowing that people are sponsoring me and the money is going to a good cause. Since things are settling down this week. Ill be able to post more often.

Creative Passion

Sorry guys I know its been a few days since my last post.

This Sunday is the church launch, so this week has been kinda stressful. We decided to advertise the launch, a website, (which still isn't fully up and running), 20k postcards and 3 static billboards on major roads, and well since their is NO RSVP system for a new church launch, we have to be prepared for whatever comes our way.  It may be 50 people that show up or it may be 500 people. What ever God wants to happen will happen and I'm OK with that. To be Honest I wasn't, not at all. but yesterday I fasted and prayed. And I can honestly say God put my heart at ease, and took the stress away.  I would def like for you guys to pray for the church though. We have NO full-time staff. 2 years ago the church was meeting in random houses. We've def come a long way.

Fellowship Church in texas does some of the most creative worship you will ever see. The songs are amazing, the passion they sing and play and worship is just amazing.

IMPACT 08 WRAP UP/RECOVERY

IMPACT 08 is in the bag, almost 800 teenagers bombarded Va Beach, Virginia, for a 3 day conference geared toward teenagers. This year the theme was
"SIMPLE"....

Jesus is Simple....
Church is Simple...
God is Simple....

We make it complicated.
We make it difficult.

Overall, I I totally think the conference was a success.  Even if 1%,  shoot even half of 1%.
If just .5% or just 40 kids gained either a better understanding of Jesus, a new or renewed passion for Christ then this event did its job. Although I wasn't involved in much more than technical role for this convention, I feel a personal connection with its success. When I was growing up I attended this event every year in high school. I think I can definitely say its part of the reason I am the person I am today. At this event I met friends from other church's, gained new role models, and its more then likely there were I started my obsession with audio technology. Through the years, its been apart of thousands of teenagers lives and I am proud to say that I have had very small part of that.

IMPACT 08

Student Ministries Of Virginia or (SMOV) has moved Its teen convention from Roanoke VA, to Virginia Beach VA. Also Made it 3 days instead of 2. Meeting at the Cavalier Conference Center right on the beach is amazing.

IMPACT 08 Friday Night First Session.
It started with an outdoor concert with "the Tripps" as student's arrived  they came outside listened to a great band, walked on the beach, played football, hung out, just relaxed and chilled before the session. "The Post" from South East is leading worship and they are amazing.

IMPACT DAY ONE from Mark Goldfarb on Vimeo.

The Speaker (Mark Christian) so far is awesome, and engaging.
I love that there's time to fellowship and hang out at all the previous conventions you were always moving and going somewhere, or sitting in the convention hall.

I think this change will be amazing for the students in VA.
Ill update later tonight on the events for tomorrow,
mainly so Ill know what's going on.

Digital Connection - Church Planting

Some people you just have to admire for what they do. Others you sit back and wonder "why do they even try?"

I'm not attending the Catalyst 08 Conference, But I did get to sit on on some pre conference labs today that were streamed over the internet. During one of the labs something was said that for me was so profound, it actually made me stop and write it down.

One of the speakers said this "Money Doesn't FUND Vision, Money FOLLOWS Vision."

Being at a small "prelaunch" Church Plant, and having ZERO outside funding, is so difficult not just for the Church but for me as well. And once I heard that statement "Money Doesn't FUND Vision, Money FOLLOWS Vision." I realized that I have really been struggling with this, and I didn't even know it. I would think about something, try to incorporate it into a "vision" and realized their was no money for it. So I would nix it right away. I havent been putting the faith in God, that's deserved. Its something I struggle with. But am learning to trust.

And Lean Not On Your Own Understanding;"
